The most interesting aspect of this building is the corbelling and the angular brick formation of the facade. The walls have a stretcher bond with iron joints and are made up of two types of bricks: a light brown one with a rough texture and a dark red one with a flat surface texture used to form a pattern on the side of the building.

This building has two different types of bonds: a stretcher bond is use in the facade while an English bond is present in the back of the building. The walls are structural and use a flush mortar joint. Two different types of bricks are also used: a dark red brick for the walls and a blue brick for the semi-circular arches used for window openings and entrances. Colour as an aesthetic is strong in the appearance of the building, enhanced by the yellowish orange of the concrete blocks and window frames acting in colour coordination contrasting with the blue bricks.

'Brick as Image' 3 - Michelle Lee

The King Street Courts use Flemish bonds with flushed joints. The building has been recently restored and refurbished, thus having newly fixed mortar joints.
The colours used in the bricks are varied in earthy tones with patches of dark purple.
As this building has been refurbished, the mortar joints are very clean and crisp, with straight lines. However, the surface texture of the bricks are light textured, thus having rolled back and indented finishes.
Although there are pillars that support the building, the bricks are nevertheless structural as they start from the ground to the roof, holding up the structure.
There are no visible defects on the bricks, as this building has been recently refurbished.

AUSTRALASIAN STEAM NAVIGATION CO., THE ROCKS

The Australasian Steam Navigation Co. building uses English bonding with flushed mortar joints.
The building is low-bearing, and hence structural as the bricks are supporting the building.
The colours of the bricks are varied, ranging from brown, earthy tones to dark purple.
The surface texture of the bricks are stock.
There are some minor defects in the brickwork, ranging from small chippings to cracked mortar joints. However, the overall brickwork has still been well-maintained.
