CHILDREN'S COURT, SURRY HILLS

The Children’s Court building uses English bonds with raked joints. The surface texture of the bricks are smooth, and are fairly well-maintained. There are only slight chippings in some of the bricks, with the mortar joints being clean and white in colour. The colour of the bricks vary in earthy tones, with the occurence of some blue-coloured bricks. Header bricks are used on the curved surface of the building, to create the rounded shape. The bricks play a structural role, holding the building up.

AUSTRALIAN INSTITUTE OF MUSIC, SURRY HILLS

This building is a traditional building built in 1934. It uses stretcher bonds with raked joints. Although the building is not a modern one, the bricks are still very well-maintained and clean, having no defects. The mortar joints is quite unusual as it is reddish-brown in colour, differing from the usual white mortar colour.
The bricks vary in colours from dark brown to deep blue. The white corbels projecting out from the wall support the weight above it. However, the bricks still play a structural role, holding the building up.

METCALFE BOND STORE BUILDING, THE ROCKS

The Metcalfe Bond building is made up of English bonds with flushed joints. The surface texture of the bricks are stock, thus it is a traditional-looking brick with slightly irregular shaped and creased texture. It consists of traditional-looking bricks with slightly irregular shape and creased texture. The colours used in the bricks are several varied earthy tone colours. The colours change as it goes down to the bottom of the building, having dark purple bricks.
The interesting feature of this building is its unique brick patterning on the side of its façade as it protrudes out and recesses back in. The bricks in this building play a structural role.
