'Brick as Image' 7 - Michelle Lee

METCALFE BOND STORE BUILDING, THE ROCKS

The Metcalfe Bond building is made up of English bonds with flushed joints. The surface texture of the bricks are stock, thus it is a traditional-looking brick with slightly irregular shaped and creased texture. It consists of traditional-looking bricks with slightly irregular shape and creased texture. The colours used in the bricks are several varied earthy tone colours. The colours change as it goes down to the bottom of the building, having dark purple bricks.
The interesting feature of this building is its unique brick patterning on the side of its façade as it protrudes out and recesses back in. The bricks in this building play a structural role.
