Submission 1

The designer applied various decorative features in the brickwork to achieve an 'Art Deco' Style for this residential building.

Primary Brick Bonds: Stretcher Bonds
Brick Joints: Racked Joints

Distinct streamline and stepped forms features the Art Deco style. The streamline effect is achieved by having aligned recessed headers. Stepped forms is achieved by employing unsupported corbelling method.

One of the most obvious Art Deco features expressed the brickwork is the 'sunburst motif' at the windows on the top two stories of the building. In this case, the sunburst effect is archived by having a segmental arch on the intrados and flat gauged voussoirs on the extrados. The sunburst also has brick-on-end dog-toothing for every four stretching courses.
