The St James Church uses Flemish bonds with grooved joints. Being an aged building, there are visible defects in the brickwork. The bricks are dirty with blackened mortar joints. The surface texture of the bricks is rugged and are tumbled, having uneven edges. The structural bricks vary in earthy tone colours, some darker than others.
