Submission 5 - Cissy Kang

This building also defies the standard 3 storey high brick building, because it is actually a reinforced concrete structure. Therefore the bricks do not play a structural role. Bricks used are of a standard 110x76x230 with colours ranging between red and purple. Bricks are arranged according to the English bond with flush mortar joints, and the obtuse angle of the building was achieved through use of bevelled closer bricks.

The brick has encountered only slight weathering of its edges. Meanwhile the surface texture is smooth, where small holes may be the result of reactions between different components of the clay, or with salt.

This 5 storey building would have again been constructed through a reinforced concrete structure, and therefore the brickwork plays a non-structural purpose. The bricks are arranged in a Flemish bond with flush mortar joints. Bricks are of a standard 110x76x230 size, peach colour and bear smooth surfaces, although the slight bumps suggest the brick has been vitrified. The lighter brick edges are evidence of tuck pointing which is an expensive method for finishing brickwork.
